Leena Romu

PhD Student, Finnish literature, School of Language, Translation and Literary Studies (LTL), University of Tampere, Finland

Leena Romu holds an MA in Finnish literature and is currently a PhD student at the University of Tampere. Her doctoral dissertation concentrates on Finnish comics made by women, and especially comics by Kati Kovács. In her research, she examines how (women’s) bodies and embodied experiences are and can be represented in the comics medium.

As a part of her PhD studies, she has taught courses that focus on comics or deal with transmedial storytelling. She also organizes an annual seminar Tampere Kuplii Goes Academic that introduces the latest findings of comics scholarship to a wider audience.
